The prestigious castle, classified as a historic monument, overlooks the village and vineyards. It used to belong to the princes of the town of Orange, and sits on its rocky promontory at the heart of the vineyards of the Côtes du Rhône. It reigns over the old village of Suze, built on the Garenne hillside which counts numerous archeological sites from all periods of history.
Today, the people from Suze are trying to showcase the village’s old stone by building calades and renovating old houses and historical vestiges. The castle is now home to the Wine University, a private establishment dedicated to vineyards and wine. It also has a training centre, wine tasting facilities, a documentation area, and last but not least, dedicated laboratories. The surrounding landscape is typical of the Provencal Drôme region and is home to the top-range campsite of Suze Luxe Nature, along the river Lez.
